Mental Health First Aid

A mental health aid certification program for the community.

Mental Health First Aid trains everyone from members of the community to first responders about mental health issues and how to address youth, adults. and communities faced with mental health crises.

About the Curriculum

The curriculum used for this program is Mental Health First Aid USA and the program is funded through the Illinois Department of Human Services. Mental Health First Aid USA is recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based programs and practices.

The education addresses the recognition of mental health issues, or crisis: tactical approaches on how to deal with them such as de-escalation; and other approaches that provide a faster, more effective response to those suffering from mental health issues.

Mental Health First-Aid Trainings for Groups

Trainings are offered for free through the Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health Services. Get a Mental Health First Aid training for your group.

Certifications and Continuing Education Credits

Individuals who complete the eight hour Mental Health First Aid training will receive a certificate. Continuing Education Units are offered for licensed social workers and licensed clinical social workers during public Mental Health First Aid sessions only.
