Substance Abuse Prevention

Knowledge is power when it comes to combating substance use.

Our substance abuse prevention program uses Life Skills Training - Botvins to combat the rise of use among youth in Southern Illinois. Our work offers decision-making practice, anxiety coping skills, and social and communication skills to better improve self-image so youth can make healthy choices later in life.

Topics covered include:

  • Ways to talk to youth about drug and alcohol use
  • Managing expectations around use
  • Appropriate youth and parent behaviors in and out of the house
  • Signs of abuse among peers

Substance abuse prevention is for everyone.

Substance abuse prevention is important for everyone in the community. We work with parents, teachers, school administrators, community groups and leaders, and any agency serving youth.

Expanded resources make our impact greater.

We partner with several community agencies to provide more prevention resources to Southern Illinois. Our partners include:

  • St. Joseph’s hospital in Breese
  • Washington County Health Department
  • Communities that Care Coalition
  • Clinton County Health department

Hoyleton Services has been instrumental in helping our students become more aware of the societal issues they will be facing and giving them solutions to face their concerns. We have been very pleased with the ease at which Hoyleton Services has collaborated with our school to help our students, by bringing us resources we would not otherwise have access to.
